VPN Connection Required!

In order to access the Results Portal from outside the University campus you must be connected via a Virtual Private Network (VPN).

Please follow the instructions below;

The following instructions are for Windows XP as your operating system but windows Vista uses a similar procedure.

These instructions should work for both dial-up and broadband connections although they have only been tested for broadband.

Stage 1

Before you start you should open your web browser to display any web page to confirm that you have an open Internet connection.

Stage 2

1. Open Control Panel and select Network Connections
   
   
2. Click on “Create a new connection” – this will open the new connection wizard, after each of the following steps (a – e) click on the Next button.
   
   
   1. Select “Connect to the network at my workplace”
   2. Select “Virtual Private Network connection”
   3. In the company name type in a name for this connection e.g. UoB VPN Connect
   4. The host name is vpn.bolton.ac.uk
   5. Select for “My use only”
   6. Select “create a shortcut on the desktop” and as this is the final step in the wizard click on the Finish button.
      
      
3. Then close down all your web browsers.
4. PLEASE NOTE CORRECTION TO THE URL GIVEN WITH YOUR RESULTS. THE CORRECT URL IS AS BELOW:
5. Launch a web browser and type in the URL: http://connect4.bolton.ac.uk/resultportal/
6. The computer will then attempt to make the connection and if it does you will be prompted to enter your user name and password. (NOTE your student account should already be setup to allow VPN connections but if you are presented with error message 649 then you would need to get it enabled at the ACS desk in the library – you will not have to run this wizard again since you have created the connection even if you are prevented from using it!)

Once the connection has been made you can access the Results Portal. :)
